Working at the Car Wash!

We had a fantastic fundraising weekend here at Ravelrig RDA, with our Tack Sale, Car Wash and Cafe.   Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to help raise a fantastic £770 over the three events.  A big thank you to Sally for organising the bumper Tack Sale, which spanned over 3 areas and everything was so beautifully displayed.  There’s still more tack to sell so we will be able to raise even more money.

The weather was really kind to us and the bacon rolls and home baking certainly kept the volunteers and customers happy.   I don’t know about anyone else who helped on the Car Wash, but today muscles I didn’t know I even had are aching.  Who needs a gym membership when you have a car to wash?

We are really grateful to B&Q at Newcraighall who supplied us with buckets and sponges and to Halfords at Straiton who donated the car shampoo.

Fundraising at Ravelrig

Did you know it costs us £70,000 to run Ravelrig RDA each year?  We raise this money a number of ways, from donations from businesses, the local community, friends of Ravelrig, Grants and our very own fundraising activities.

We are always looking for new ways to raise funds and we are holding a Car Wash and Tack Sale on Sunday 23rd September.

From 12pm – 3pm we will be at Ravelrig RDA, buckets, bubbles and sponges at the ready to wash your dirty car for just £3 and at the same time there will be lots of Tack for sale in the barn.

Each event is being run independently, so it’s fine if you are not interested in Tack and just want your car washing or walk here and just want to peruse the Tack, (we won’t attack you with soap and water!).

There is lots of tack available from full bridles, rugs and lots more, so come along and see what you can pick up.

Coop Community Fund

We have just 3 months remaining as one of the Co-op’s three charities they are supporting from the Corslet Place store in Currie.

The Community Fund is a great way to support your chosen charity as they donate 1% of your Coop purchases directly to us and you get 5% back, so we’re all winners.

We are hoping to raise £1,000 to allow us to develop and support our wonderful volunteer coaches who work so hard for us here at Ravelrig.  By raising this money it will ensure regular riding lessons for everyone.

It costs us approximately £70,000 to keep Ravelrig running, looking after the horses and stables so this is a great way to help us with no cost to you.

There are a couple of ways you can become a member of the Coop and it’s just £1.

  • Pop along to the Corslet Place branch in Currie, they will have application forms at the till

  • go on line at coop.co.uk/membership

Remember to select Ravelrig RDA as your chosen charity.

A Fun Day Out

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Ravelrig Summer Open Day, it was a great success and we raised over £2,200 to allow us to support our riders and horses.  Our running costs are around £70,000 a year, so these events really do make a difference.

Thankfully the rain and wind we had on Saturday had disappeared by the time Sunday arrived.  The BBQ and cafe were popular as were the craft and art stalls, tombolas and raffle and Raymondo the magician kept everyone entertained, as did the birds and bouncy castle.

The horses worked really hard on the day and are now enjoying a rest in the fields.  Some of our volunteers put on a wonderful riding display that had been choreographed by one of our coaches, Annie.  They had rehearsed a lot in the run up to the event and it was brilliant, all done to music and not a hoof out of place!  Well done!

A special thank you also goes to the volunteers and corporate work parties who worked so hard in the weeks before, painting, sanding, cleaning, organising, building and making the stables and horses look their best.  To those of you who donated to our Tombolas and home baking, it is really appreciated.

We had a lot of support this year from local businesses who donated raffle prizes, so we are really grateful to them all.

So, once the tidying up has been completed, the sleep caught up on, it’s onwards and upwards to the next event and let’s just say we have a few new ideas kicking about.

It’s our Open Day

It’s all go at Ravelrig RDA this week getting everything organised for the annual Summer Open Day.

We have had the help of some wonderful work parties from HSBC and Lloyds and some of our own wonderful volunteers giving their time and energy to make the place and horses look great for Sunday.

Thanks to the weather and Storm Hector we had to take down the marquee that was up in the car park to then re-erect it to prevent it taking off and flying over Balerno.

We are all excited about the day and look forward to meeting you all between 12noon – 4pm

We have lots to keep you entertained from our tasty BBQ, cafe, magician, craft stalls, tombolas, raffle, riding and much more.

Remember we do have limited space for parking, so if it’s easy for you to walk…

Snap Happy – Photo Competition

We are running a photographic competition and the winners will have their images included in the 2019 Ravelrig calendar.

You are invited to take photos of Ravelrig, the horses, the people. the riding, whatever Ravelrig represents to YOU, but please remember to ask permission first if you are taking photos of people.

RULES

2 photos per person, per entry

£2 per entry, with all money going towards caring for the ponies and cats at Ravelrig.

Entries much be in by 27th July 2018 and the winners will be announced on 24th August 2018

Walkin’ wi’ yer kilt!

We are always looking for new ways to raise money for Ravelrig RDA and over the years a number of volunteers and friends of Ravelrig have taken part in outside events like the Edinburgh or London Marathons, bike rides and sponsored walks.

Katie Allan is currently in training for the Edinburgh Half Marathon and has set up a Just Giving page Ravelrig.  Click here to read more about Katie’s challenge.

There is an exciting event coming up on 16th September in Edinburgh called The Kilt Walk.   It is also running events in Glasgow,  Aberdeen and Dundee throughout the year.

The Kilt Walk is a great event and one of our volunteers Martha took part in the Glasgow event last year and had a great time.   All you have to do is register on their website, choose which city you want to take part in, choose which distance you want to walk, either 26, 13 or 6 miles and get searching for your tartan, training shoes and sponsors.  You’ll need the Charity number for Ravelrig RDA to start raising money for us and we will receive 140% of your sponsorship.

Coop Membership

We have just received our first payment from the Coop Local Community Fund

There is still time to become a member at the Coop in Corslet Place and support Ravelrig as we are one of their charities that will benefit until October 2018.

For EVERY Coop branded item you purchase YOU will receive 5% of the value back and 1% will come to Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled.

Whenever you buy Coop branded products like milk, bread, cakes, cheese or use their electricity, insurance or legal services you will not only benefit but so will Ravelrig.

It is incredibly easy to become a Coop Member just click here  and it’s just £1 to join.

Once you have paid your £1 you are then asked on screen which of the three charities you would like to support, click on Ravelrig and that’s you done.

They will then send your card in the post.

If you do not live within 15 miles of the Corslet Place Coop Ravelrig will not be come up as a charity to support so with the Coop’s agreement if can put Ravelrig as your address and just select email correspondence.  Your card will come to Ravelrig and you can pick it up or we can post it out to you.

It’s a great and simple way to donate to Ravelrig without doing anything so please pop along to the shop or go online and sign up now!
