This weekend it’s the Edinburgh Marathon Festival with lots of different races and events going on over the two days. We are very proud to say that two of our supporters are running in aid of Ravelrig RDA.
Gillian Hogarth is running the 10km on Saturday 26th May. Gillian’s daughter Anna is one of our wonderful volunteers and is training to become a coach with us. Anna is also off to study Veterinary medicine in Edinburgh in September, so will be able to continue her work with us, which are so pleased about. Gillian is also celebrating her 50th birthday party that evening, so she will have definitely have earned a glass of bubbly!
Our second runner is Katie Allan who is running the half marathon on the Sunday 27th May. Katie’s sister Emma has been a rider with us at Ravelrig for 14 years and loves it, Katie says that her face lights up as soon as she is on a horse.
Both Gillian and Katie have done a fantastic job training for their events, especially in the cold weather we have had this year, I don’t know many people who would want to go running in the wind and rain! Thank you to them both for their support and determination, we will be so grateful for the donations and they will go a long way in helping support both our riders and horses here at Ravelrig and allow us to continue helping others.
Good Luck & Thank You from everyone at Ravelrig
There’s still time to show your support for Gillian and Katie on their Just Giving pages or why not pop along to shout them from the sidelines.
It’s always lovely to see the Ravelrig horses playing with each other after doing their RDA work. With the sun out and the grass growing they are full of beans.
Here is Teemo and Thumper giving each other a good back scratch. Who needs to find a fence post to scratch on when you have a good friend about?
Sally and Irene went out on a short hack earlier this week on Paco and Buddie. They had a great time and the sun was shining all the time for them. Paco and Buddie were so well behaved and enjoyed stretching their legs outside Ravelrig RDA.
They also looked super smart with their new numnahs that Irene had bought for us. They are a lovely purple with Ravelrig RDA embroidered onto them in gold thread.

At the end of April we had a lovely work party from HSBC come to Ravelrig and work for the day. They all rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to the gardening and discovered the weeds were fairly well stuck in to the ground. We were reassured they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and found it a lovely change from sitting in their office.
They did a fantastic job of scarifying and cutting the grass, weeding the beds, driving our RTV and moving huge piles of new bark around and made the place look much neater and tidier, so thank you to them all!
Here’s a few photos from their day with us.

The Ravelrig horses are all out in the green fields eating the lovely new grass that has eventually started to grow now the weather has improved.
The last few weeks they were getting eager to leave the hay behind and venture out to the grass and Paco even made a bid for freedom, much to the confusion of the others. They all seem very happy to be out in the fields today soaking up a bit of sun too.

Somehow it is already May and we would like to introduce our May sponsor for our 2018 calendar. Tony Harper is based on Bavelaw Road in Balerno so is truly local and if you are needing a new look or just a trim why not give them a go?

This is what happens when you go outside to see the horses while eating an apple…Buddie was determined to get me to share it with him.
No sooner had Buddie seen me, Thumper and Flynn were heading over in hot pursuit of food too!

What’s that? Food? Wait!!

With the horses being up on the hard surface for the colder winter months they haven’t been grazing in the fields and with that Tonto has managed to grow quite an impressive moustache to keep his top lip nice and cosy.
He said he was thinking of entering it into a competition for the World’s most Impressive Moustache and to be honest we think he might do rather well.
What do you think?
