Harris joining in the work

We had a great work party from Lloyds Banking Group last week who worked their socks off for us at Ravelrig.  Here’s what Michelle, one of the team had to say about it.

“Please extend our thanks to everyone at RDA, particularly Sally and John, for our warm welcome and fun filled day of volunteering.  Most of the team have previously volunteered at Ravelrig and we were delighted to be asked back again this year!

After a quick cup of tea and briefing on the day ahead, 2 of our team volunteers (Mark and Dougie) headed off into the fields with John to mend some fences and the remainder of the group (Karen, Linda, Jaclynn, Scott, Tom and Michelle) were put to work sanding and painting the outside buildings in preparation for the winter months.

The weather was very kind to us and we enjoyed a very productive day in the autumn sunshine and were lucky enough to meet the lovely Harris too!  Thanks again and we hope to see you all again soon!”

Ravelrig takes a lot of maintenance, from looking after the horses health and well-being to making sure the vehicles, fences and buildings are fit for purpose.  This all takes time and energy and we are so grateful to these individuals and businesses who come and help at Ravelrig.

Here’s the team with their newest member Harris!

Norton House Work Party

We welcomed a great group of volunteers from the Norton House Hotel at the beginning of December who kindly came out for the day to get stuck in to our garden and stables.  This time of year all the lovely plants are not looking their best and need a good hair cut to take them in to the winter months.

They came armed with cake for the humans and apples for the horses, so as you can imagine it went down very well indeed.

Thank you to Peter, Chris, Frances, Hannah, Lyndsay, Johnny, Brian, Iona, Hollie, Lauren, Daragh and James.  James who is the Norton House gardener made sure the team worked hard in our garden and made everything look gorgeous.  Johnny was a bit obsessed with our power hose but the area outside the stables is gleaming in the sun.  A big thank you for all your hard work and making Ravelrig tidier, and shinier we appreciate your support.

We are so grateful to ALL our wonderful work parties who have been out this year giving us their time and energy gardening, painting, sanding, building and generally putting in a lot of elbow grease.  They are able to do the jobs that we just don’t have time to do and it really makes such a difference.

We have had people from lots of places, including Lloyds, Bank of Scotland, Cadence, HSBC and Green Investment Bank.

If your work offers you community days why not come and help at Ravelrig during 2018.

Gardener’s World

We had a lovely work party from HSBC at the Gyle, Edinburgh at Ravelrig last week helping out.  With the weather being kind, they rolled up their sleeves and attacked the gardening, weeds and shrubs making the grounds look much more presentable and tidy.

The grass was cut, wood painted and weeds dug up and we are so grateful for their hard work and support!

Changing Rooms!

It was paint rollers and trowels at the ready this week when a lovely group from the Bank of Scotland Commercial Banking Services came to Ravelrig to work their magic.  It’s the third time some of the group had come and worked hard for us and this time the sun was shining for them.

Bank of SCotland

Bank of Scotland work party in the garden

With a generous donation from the Bank they provided us with new hanging baskets, plants and bark for the play area.

They weeded, cleaned, pruned and painted in the sun with the gardens and stables looking spick and span.

Thank you to you all!

Lloyds Bank work parties

This week and last have been really busy with some wonderfully helpful, hardworking people from Lloyds Bank in Edinburgh.

Last week the same department sent three groups on separate days and they all rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to work.  With the sun shining each day they certainly chose a great time and we are really appreciative of all their hard work.

Then this week we got another group from Lloyds who Barbara put to work clearing out the barn.  With a couple of dump runs the barn is sparkling even if the poor volunteers aren’t after their hard work.

Thumper was given some pampering with a shower and scrub which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Gardening Frenzy

Today we had some wonderful people from the Green Investment Bank who volunteered their time and energy to looking after our garden.  Pruning, weeding, cutting and general prettifying the grounds for us.  We really do appreciate all their hard work the garden and paths look amazing and ready for spring.

Now, I wonder if they are available next week too?

Open Day Preparations Days 1 & 2

On 26th & 27th May, Ravelrig was delighted to have help from yet more Bank of Scotland employees in the week before the Annual Open Day on 5th June!

Many thanks to Diane Curran and her colleagues from Teviot House, South Gyle, Edinburgh for clearing and painting stables and MANY other essential preparatory tasks! Your hard work set the pace for the rest of the week.

Garden Gang

Green fingered ladies from Bank of Scotland Commercial Client Services in Edinburgh had a great day on 19th May tidying up the Ravelrig RDA gardens and replanting the hanging baskets.

Daffodils were dead-headed and tied back, weeds were whipped out, shrubs were trimmed and baskets beautified!  What a difference – and the afternoon showers didn’t phase them at all.

Many thanks to Fiona Gagen, Hazel Paterson, Angela Smith, Gill Dalgleish, Dot McConnell, Ashley Erskine, Suzanne Hume and Donna Evans.

Spring was in the air

Staff from People’s Postcode Lottery Edinburgh were lucky enough to get some fabulous weather on Thursday 14th April when they joined us at Ravelrig for a day of volunteering.

Toby (who was confined to his stable) was delighted to have so many new admirers to entertain him.

The team spent the day clearing out the barn, path clearing, gardening and moving boards in the Clubroom.

Ravelrig RDA was particularly pleased to host friends from PPCL as they are one of our major funders having provided the £100,000 grant we were awarded in December 2015 via RDA National.

Many thanks to Keith Harper, Nick Davidson, Danny Kent, Doriane Dupont, Wendy Toon, Daan Lagas, Ailbhe Kirwan, Sean McCarron and Luke Bennet.
