Thank you!

We receive a lot of donations at Ravelrig RDA and are so grateful for the generosity of individuals and companies.

This weekend alone we had the Land Rover serviced and put through its MOT Free of Charge thanks to Andy White of White’s Auto Services in Dalry.  It was completely unexpected and such a kind gesture, we are so grateful.

We also received a car wash pack from Halfords at Hermiston Gait to help us get started on our Fundraising Car Wash in September.

Then on Saturday we had another call from our friends at Corstorphine Tesco to say that they had more carrots to donate to us.  Barbara popped along to the store on Saturday evening to collect a trolley load from Andrew the Fruit and Vegetable Manager.  Carrots are a favoured healthy snack for the horses, so we are sure they won’t take too long to crunch their way through them.

It’s our Open Day

It’s all go at Ravelrig RDA this week getting everything organised for the annual Summer Open Day.

We have had the help of some wonderful work parties from HSBC and Lloyds and some of our own wonderful volunteers giving their time and energy to make the place and horses look great for Sunday.

Thanks to the weather and Storm Hector we had to take down the marquee that was up in the car park to then re-erect it to prevent it taking off and flying over Balerno.

We are all excited about the day and look forward to meeting you all between 12noon – 4pm

We have lots to keep you entertained from our tasty BBQ, cafe, magician, craft stalls, tombolas, raffle, riding and much more.

Remember we do have limited space for parking, so if it’s easy for you to walk…

Walkin’ wi’ yer kilt!

We are always looking for new ways to raise money for Ravelrig RDA and over the years a number of volunteers and friends of Ravelrig have taken part in outside events like the Edinburgh or London Marathons, bike rides and sponsored walks.

Katie Allan is currently in training for the Edinburgh Half Marathon and has set up a Just Giving page Ravelrig.  Click here to read more about Katie’s challenge.

There is an exciting event coming up on 16th September in Edinburgh called The Kilt Walk.   It is also running events in Glasgow,  Aberdeen and Dundee throughout the year.

The Kilt Walk is a great event and one of our volunteers Martha took part in the Glasgow event last year and had a great time.   All you have to do is register on their website, choose which city you want to take part in, choose which distance you want to walk, either 26, 13 or 6 miles and get searching for your tartan, training shoes and sponsors.  You’ll need the Charity number for Ravelrig RDA to start raising money for us and we will receive 140% of your sponsorship.

Here’s some links and information for you if you would like to take part.  If you have any questions please let us know on 0131 449 7994 or office@ravelrig-rda.org.uk

Indoor Arena

Planned Indoor Riding Arena and Associated Facilities at Ravelrig RDA

It is with regret that the Trustees of Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled Association have decided not to proceed with the proposed development of their indoor school at Balerno. Escalating project costs and increased financial risk in the long term were the major factors in what has been a difficult decision for all concerned. It was also clear that a compromised scaled back development would fall short of the project’s original aims.

In addition to the financial decision, the Trustees recognise that work on the project was making it more difficult to concentrate on the Group’s main aims and objectives, as a vital resource for disabled people in the local area. This decision will allow the whole Ravelrig community – riders, families and volunteers – to focus on the life-changing benefits of horses, and to enjoy being part of the Ravelrig family.

Ravelrig RDA offers an inspirational and welcoming environment for people of all ages to benefit from horses, to enjoy the outdoors and the stunning views of Balerno. Having deliberated long and hard over their decision, the Trustees are now focussed on the future of Ravelrig, putting riders’ needs first and increasing the number of individuals who can benefit from the Group’s activities. We have contacted all our donors and organisations who have pledged funds informing them of this decision.

Kind regards

Coop Community

Did you know we are one of the three charities chosen by the Corslet Place Coop in Currie to be part of their Local Community Fund?

For EVERY Coop branded item you purchase YOU will receive 5% of the value back and 1% will come to Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled

We are one of their charities that will benefit until October 2018, so when you buy Coop branded products like milk, bread, cakes, cheese not only will you have a tasty lunch but Ravelrig will benefit as long as you have your Coop Membership card.

It is incredibly easy to become a Coop Member just click here  and it’s just £1 to join.

Once you have paid your £1 you are then asked on screen which of the three charities you would like to support, click on Ravelrig and that’s you done.

They will then send your card in the post.

As this is a “local” Community Fund if your postcode is not local to Corslet Place, Ravelrig unfortunately will not come up as one of your choices.  We are trying to confirm with the Coop whether if you join in store this is different.

Thank you!

Help raise money for Ravelrig this Christmas time!

Sparkling Time!

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Christmas Open Day preparations and those who helped on the day, without you all we couldn’t have done it, so thank you!!

Thank you also to those who came along on the day, we had a great time and we hope you did too.

Santa rode in with his elves on horseback after having a tour of Balerno.  Settling in to his cosy grotto he managed to meet all the children and make sure he had a note of exactly what they wanted for Christmas, so he wouldn’t forget!

With the wonderfully tasty homebaking, warming homemade soup and hot dogs no one went hungry.  Craft and game stalls, live music, our Tombolas and raffle went really well and not forgetting our pony rides.  There was lots of fun for everyone.

With your help and support we raised over £1,500 for Ravelrig, so a huge big sparkling Thank you from us all!

Here’s some photos from the day.
