Planned Indoor Riding Arena and Associated Facilities at Ravelrig RDA

It is with regret that the Trustees of Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled Association have decided not to proceed with the proposed development of their indoor school at Balerno. Escalating project costs and increased financial risk in the long term were the major factors in what has been a difficult decision for all concerned. It was also clear that a compromised scaled back development would fall short of the project’s original aims.

In addition to the financial decision, the Trustees recognise that work on the project was making it more difficult to concentrate on the Group’s main aims and objectives, as a vital resource for disabled people in the local area. This decision will allow the whole Ravelrig community – riders, families and volunteers – to focus on the life-changing benefits of horses, and to enjoy being part of the Ravelrig family.

Ravelrig RDA offers an inspirational and welcoming environment for people of all ages to benefit from horses, to enjoy the outdoors and the stunning views of Balerno. Having deliberated long and hard over their decision, the Trustees are now focussed on the future of Ravelrig, putting riders’ needs first and increasing the number of individuals who can benefit from the Group’s activities. We have contacted all our donors and organisations who have pledged funds informing them of this decision.

Everybody needs good Neigh-bours

CALA recently donated £20,000 to Ravelrig towards our Indoor Arena, which helps us step a little nearer to the final fundraising target.

Their generosity is really appreciated by everyone who uses Ravelrig, from riders, volunteers and not forgetting our great horses.

Ravelrig Presentation

We will be holding a presentation at the Currie Bowling Club on the 26th & 29th April to tell you all about our plans for next year and beyond.

The presentation will also give us the opportunity to tell you more about the Rider development, the Volunteers and Coaches and the Indoor Arena Development Funding.

There will be opportunities to ask questions at the end of the evening to the room or informally with the trustees or coaches.

We will be asking what you would like covered during the presentation over the coming weeks and also be asking you to confirm your attendance.
