It’s our Open Day

It’s all go at Ravelrig RDA this week getting everything organised for the annual Summer Open Day.

We have had the help of some wonderful work parties from HSBC and Lloyds and some of our own wonderful volunteers giving their time and energy to make the place and horses look great for Sunday.

Thanks to the weather and Storm Hector we had to take down the marquee that was up in the car park to then re-erect it to prevent it taking off and flying over Balerno.

We are all excited about the day and look forward to meeting you all between 12noon – 4pm

We have lots to keep you entertained from our tasty BBQ, cafe, magician, craft stalls, tombolas, raffle, riding and much more.

Remember we do have limited space for parking, so if it’s easy for you to walk…

Sparkling Time!

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Christmas Open Day preparations and those who helped on the day, without you all we couldn’t have done it, so thank you!!

Thank you also to those who came along on the day, we had a great time and we hope you did too.

Santa rode in with his elves on horseback after having a tour of Balerno.  Settling in to his cosy grotto he managed to meet all the children and make sure he had a note of exactly what they wanted for Christmas, so he wouldn’t forget!

With the wonderfully tasty homebaking, warming homemade soup and hot dogs no one went hungry.  Craft and game stalls, live music, our Tombolas and raffle went really well and not forgetting our pony rides.  There was lots of fun for everyone.

With your help and support we raised over £1,500 for Ravelrig, so a huge big sparkling Thank you from us all!

Here’s some photos from the day.

Summer Open Day

Our annual Summer Open Day was a huge success with the sun shining and the crowds being entertained throughout the day.

Our BBQ and cafe kept everyone supplied with great food, cold drinks and fabulous home baking.  The entertainment included the hard working Ravelrig horses giving rides to lots of lovely visitors, the Great Raymondo magician, the Jungle Book Bouncy Castle, craft and art stalls, Owl magic and our tombolas and raffle.

We would like to shout a big thank you to everyone who donated to the tombolas, raffle and baking, your generosity is really appreciated.  To all the hardworking volunteers who helped throughout the week in the run up to the event helping make the stables and horses look their best for the visitors.  Thank you to everyone who gave up their time and energy on the day, without your help these events could never take place, so you are really appreciated!

There were a number of businesses that donated to the raffle and BBQ, including Scott from the Corslet Place branch of Coop who gave a large quantity of burgers, rolls and juice and Claire from Inglis Green Road Sainsburys who gave to our raffle and BBQ.

Thank you Iceland, Asda, Tesco, Scotmid, Macdonald Hotel Group, Cherry Blossom Beauty and all the wonderful stall holders who donated to our raffle.  There are so many people to thank we really do appreciate your support.

We all had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we all hope you did too.

Our final figure we raised is still to be confirmed but we will let you know as soon as we can.

Our next event is our Dog Show on Sunday 17th September so hope to see you all again soon.

Preparations in full swing

Our Open Day is just hours away now and preparations are in full swing.  Marquees and stalls up, horses being brushed and pampered, paths swept and lots of lovely volunteers helping to get everything organised for our big day.

The weather looks like it might be good to us too tomorrow so we are all looking forward to welcoming you to Ravelrig for lots of fun!

Oreo’s looking forward to the Open Day tomorrow

Great British Bake Off

Have you ever watched the Great British Bake Off and thought, “I could do that?”  Well now you can and help Ravelrig along the way.

We are looking for lots of home baking for our Open Day cafe and stall so find that pinny and mixing bowl and create some treats for us to make Paul, Mary and the Ravelrig ponies proud.

Remember to let us know you are baking by adding your name to the list in the Club Room or drop us an email

Open Day Countdown

Planning for the Ravelrig Open Day is in full swing with lots of to-do lists being worked through in preparation.  There are lots of exciting things in the pipeline and we are all really excited about the big day.

We would like to put out an appeal for donations for our Raffle and Tombola.  Do you have any items that would make a brilliant raffle prize or could you contribute to our chocolate or wine tombolas?

You can pop your donations in to the green boxes in the Club Room.

We are also looking for volunteers for the day itself.  If you can give us some of your time on the Sunday to help out in anyway we would be really grateful.  Either pop your name on the list on the Events notice board in the Club Room or drop Katie an email at

Thank you!

Open Day Organisation

It’s that time of the year again when we are starting to organise our Summer Open Day.

Can you help in anyway?   Maybe you can lend a hand on the day or maybe you could donate some home baking or chocolate for our famous Cholocate Tombola, which not surprisingly is always popular.

We also have lots of posters to print and distribute around the area so if you can lend a hand with that we would be super grateful.

There’s more information on the noticeboard in the Club Room and we will also be sending out emails requesting help over the coming weeks.

Thank you!

The Glorious Ravelrig Open Day 2016 raises an amazing £3,016!!

What a brilliant day!  Wonderful weather, lovely people, tasty burgers, delicious home baking and loads of things to do.  All the crazy preparation and praying for good weather paid off with what can only be described as a fabulous Open Day.  Huge thanks to everyone who helped out before, during and after – plus a big thank you to everyone who came along to support us.

Special thanks to Rollover Hotdogs for donating the delicious hotdogs for the BBQ and our long term supporters Fords The Bakers (Newbridge) who donated the rolls for the burgers and some cakes for our cafe.
