Goodbye to Red – our much loved gentle giant

It was with great sadness that today we said goodbye to our fantastic Ravelrig RDA horse Red.  After several weeks of treatment for age related degeneration of the superficial flexor digital tendon, we were advised that there was no hope  of Red retiring to a comfortable, meaningful life without pain, leaving us no alternative to the hard decision that had to be made.

Although he had been an RDA horse for many years, Red only came to Ravelrig in 2012. Before Ravelrig Red had spent time as an RDA vaulting horse, proving he was not only extremely handsome, but incredibly talented. Red was a real gentleman, tolerant of volunteers learning to groom, pick out feet or even clip.  He had the skill to assess the volunteer’s capability and challenge them to their limit but never put them in danger. Red will be a hard act to follow, he didn’t have a bad bone in his body and was always a true gentleman, he will be remembered with great fondness by all who knew and loved him.
