Thank you so much to Katie Allan who ran the Edinburgh Half Marathon and Gillian Hogarth who ran the Edinburgh 10Km both for Ravelrig RDA.
Their hard work and dedication they showed in the run up to the event, training in the terrible weather we have had really paid off and they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
It was such a challenge but I am so glad I did it. I have a new found love so I have already signed myself up to do the Scottish half in September.
I just want to say how much fun I had on the day and I am so glad I raised money for such an amazing charity. My sister gets so much pleasure from riding the horses at Ravelrig. Her face lights up and she has a big smile on her face when riding, especially when she is able to trot. It was the only charity I could do the run for because I know how much it means to Emma and my family.
I am celebrating my 50th with a party that evening so I have asked that people sponsor me rather than gifts. I put a moderate target down but hope to raise considerably more. Our daughter, Anna very much enjoys helping at the Balerno RDA and we are delighted that she is training to be an instructor. She is going to Edinburgh university in September to study veterinary medicine so will be able to continue supporting such a great cause.
They have managed to raise an amazingly, wonderful amount of over £2,700 for Ravelrig. We are so grateful to them both and if anyone wants to set themselves a challenge and raise money for Ravelrig in the process, let us know.

This weekend it’s the Edinburgh Marathon Festival with lots of different races and events going on over the two days. We are very proud to say that two of our supporters are running in aid of Ravelrig RDA.
Gillian Hogarth is running the 10km on Saturday 26th May. Gillian’s daughter Anna is one of our wonderful volunteers and is training to become a coach with us. Anna is also off to study Veterinary medicine in Edinburgh in September, so will be able to continue her work with us, which are so pleased about. Gillian is also celebrating her 50th birthday party that evening, so she will have definitely have earned a glass of bubbly!
Our second runner is Katie Allan who is running the half marathon on the Sunday 27th May. Katie’s sister Emma has been a rider with us at Ravelrig for 14 years and loves it, Katie says that her face lights up as soon as she is on a horse.
Both Gillian and Katie have done a fantastic job training for their events, especially in the cold weather we have had this year, I don’t know many people who would want to go running in the wind and rain! Thank you to them both for their support and determination, we will be so grateful for the donations and they will go a long way in helping support both our riders and horses here at Ravelrig and allow us to continue helping others.
Good Luck & Thank You from everyone at Ravelrig
There’s still time to show your support for Gillian and Katie on their Just Giving pages or why not pop along to shout them from the sidelines.
Ravelrig RDA is excited to announce we have another supporter running the streets of Edinburgh to raise money for us. Gillian Hogarth is running the 10km at the end of May for us and is aiming to raise £250.
Gillian’s daughter Anna has been volunteering with us at Ravelrig for over 2 years and is now training to be a Coach. Hearing what we do through Anna, Gillian has decided to support us with her run.
As Gillian says “Anna has seen first hand both the physical and emotional benefits that the horses have on the riders”.
Why not pop over to Gillian’s Just Giving page and support her on this journey, I know how hard it is to train for these events, especially through the cold days, so we are so grateful to Gillian.
