There has always been a sense of community in this part of Edinburgh. People communicating, supporting and helping each other to make our community better for everyone and it’s a lovely feeling to be part of it.
The Coop in Corslet Place, Currie has been a wonderful supporter of Ravelrig for the last year while we have been part of the Coop’s Community Local Fund. Kerry, Scott, Craig and all their team have been out to see us a few times and even joined in our Summer Open Day.
Being one of the three local charities the store has supported has been an honour, but has unfortunately come to an end. We will apply for the next round but what we have achieved this time is fantastic and it will really make a difference and allow us to develop and support our volunteer coaches.
Some of the Saturday volunteers will be heading to Corslet Place Coop on Saturday 24th November to collect our final payment cheque from the store’s team so we are really excited about that. Pop along about 3pm if you want to join in the fun.
We receive a lot of donations at Ravelrig RDA and are so grateful for the generosity of individuals and companies.
This weekend alone we had the Land Rover serviced and put through its MOT Free of Charge thanks to Andy White of White’s Auto Services in Dalry. It was completely unexpected and such a kind gesture, we are so grateful.
We also received a car wash pack from Halfords at Hermiston Gait to help us get started on our Fundraising Car Wash in September.
Then on Saturday we had another call from our friends at Corstorphine Tesco to say that they had more carrots to donate to us. Barbara popped along to the store on Saturday evening to collect a trolley load from Andrew the Fruit and Vegetable Manager. Carrots are a favoured healthy snack for the horses, so we are sure they won’t take too long to crunch their way through them.
Thank you to everyone who came out to help set up the Jumble Sale on Friday afternoon and in to the evening, to those of you who donated items to the sale and to all the volunteers who helped out on the day. THANK YOU! We could not have done it without your time and hard work.
We had a great day on Saturday and raised over £2,000 and hope to raise more with items we can sell on eBay in the future.
Jonathan Page from Harmeny Pentland Runners popped in, or should that be jogged in earlier this week with a lovely cheque for £300 that they raised for Ravelrig from their Awards Night.
Harmeny Athletic Club is based in Balerno and they have a Junior and Adult Section. The Junior Group caters for runners from the age of 9 – 16 years and if you are a bit older and fancy running in the beautiful Pentland Hills while getting fit and meeting new people then why not give the Adult Group a try.
We are really grateful to Harmeny Pentland Runners for choosing to support Ravelrig RDA in their fundraising Award Night and the money will go a long way in helping support our 8 specially trained horses, riders and volunteers.
Our annual Summer Open Day was a huge success with the sun shining and the crowds being entertained throughout the day.
Our BBQ and cafe kept everyone supplied with great food, cold drinks and fabulous home baking. The entertainment included the hard working Ravelrig horses giving rides to lots of lovely visitors, the Great Raymondo magician, the Jungle Book Bouncy Castle, craft and art stalls, Owl magic and our tombolas and raffle.
We would like to shout a big thank you to everyone who donated to the tombolas, raffle and baking, your generosity is really appreciated. To all the hardworking volunteers who helped throughout the week in the run up to the event helping make the stables and horses look their best for the visitors. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time and energy on the day, without your help these events could never take place, so you are really appreciated!
There were a number of businesses that donated to the raffle and BBQ, including Scott from the Corslet Place branch of Coop who gave a large quantity of burgers, rolls and juice and Claire from Inglis Green Road Sainsburys who gave to our raffle and BBQ.
Thank you Iceland, Asda, Tesco, Scotmid, Macdonald Hotel Group, Cherry Blossom Beauty and all the wonderful stall holders who donated to our raffle. There are so many people to thank we really do appreciate your support.
We all had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we all hope you did too.
Our final figure we raised is still to be confirmed but we will let you know as soon as we can.
Our next event is our Dog Show on Sunday 17th September so hope to see you all again soon.
